Building your dream home in Aintree? You’ve chosen one of Victoria’s newest suburbs, Aintree didn’t even officially exist until 2017. In less than a decade, the Woodlea Estate has grown from open paddocks into a community of over 16,000 residents, with new stages still going up. That kind of rapid growth is exciting, but it creates specific water quality challenges that most new Aintree residents don’t discover until they’ve already moved in.
Your water is supplied and managed by Greater Western Water (GWW) – the Victorian Government-owned utility that covers western Melbourne and the Melton growth corridor. GWW services more than 1.4 million people across 3,700 square kilometres, and Aintree sits right in the middle of their busiest expansion zone. If you ever have a water quality concern, GWW is your first port of call on 13 44 99.
Aintree is supplied through GWW’s Merrimu/Melton supply system. Your water originates from protected mountain catchments east of Melbourne — primarily Silvan Reservoir, fed by Thomson Reservoir, Upper Yarra Reservoir, and the O’Shannassy River — before being transferred to Greenvale Reservoir and then distributed west through the Merrimu system to the Melton corridor.
These are genuinely high-quality source waters. Because the catchments are fully protected (no farming, industry, or public access), the only treatment applied at the reservoir level is chlorination and pH correction with calcium oxide (lime). By the time it leaves the source, it’s very clean water. The challenge is what happens on the way to your tap.
Melbourne’s water is naturally very soft, with hardness levels typically in the range of 20–40 mg/L, well below the 200 mg/L threshold where scale becomes a real problem. On paper, that sounds ideal. But Aintree has two issues that soft-water suburbs elsewhere don’t face to the same degree.
The first is chlorine. GWW uses free chlorine to disinfect the entire network, with levels up to 1.2 mg/L measured across the distribution system, and higher near dosing points. Because Aintree is at the far end of a rapidly expanding pipe network, GWW doses more heavily to ensure adequate residual by the time water reaches homes at the outer edges of the Woodlea estate. Residents frequently notice a chemical taste or smell, particularly from cold taps and shower heads first thing in the morning.
The second is new pipe sediment. With Woodlea and surrounding Aintree stages still under construction, new mains are being tapped into the live network constantly. Every connection point introduces a brief pulse of fine sediment, metal particles, and construction debris into the local lines. This is why Aintree households, especially those in the newest stages, commonly find discoloured water, blocked tap aerators, and debris in washing machine inlet filters in the first months after moving in. It’s temporary, but without a filter at the point of entry, it passes through every tap and appliance in your home.
What this means in plain terms: Aintree’s water is safe. But safe and great aren’t the same thing. The chlorine taste is real, the new-pipe sediment is real, and your premium tapware, shower screens, and appliances are exposed to both from day one.
Our advanced four-stage whole house filtration system purifies water down to 0.5-1 microns using large 10″ or 20″ cartridges, optimising efficiency and longevity while effectively eliminating contaminants. This comprehensive system ensures clean, filtered water is delivered to every tap and shower throughout your home—enhancing your family’s health and well-being, protecting your plumbing and appliances, and improving your overall quality of life.
Our advanced five-stage reverse osmosis system reduces up to 98% of contaminants, including PFAS and fluoride, while enriching the water with essential minerals. This results in clean, high-alkaline water with a pH of 9.5, offering added peace of mind and supporting overall health. Featuring a USA-made RO membrane and a 12-litre stainless steel storage tank, the system ensures durability, safety, and the highest quality drinking water for your family.
Our premium UV Rainwater Filtration System eliminates bacteria and viruses from your tank water while capturing both fine and coarse sediment. Made in Italy, this all-in-one unit includes dual-stage filtration and a high-output UV lamp, ensuring reliable disinfection without the need for chemicals. An intelligent countdown timer with a built-in alarm system monitors UV lamp life and alerts you when replacement is due, providing continuous, safe water to every tap—ideal for homes relying on rainwater.

We love our PureFlow filter. The bath and shower no longer smell of chlorine when we run them, and the water tastes delicious. We previously used a ceramic benchtop filter, but having PureFlow installed for the whole house gives us peace of mind knowing that all heavy metals and chemicals are being removed throughout the home. The customer service was excellent—I couldn’t fault it.

I called a few different companies to find exactly what I was looking for, and PureFlow was the most professional by far. They sent out Monte, who was excellent to talk to about all my filtration needs. I ended up going with the whole home filtration system and the Reverse Osmosis system under the sink. I am thoroughly impressed with both filtration systems. I will definitely be recommending PureFlow to all my friends and family.

We are really satisfied with our whole house PureFlow filter and the reverse osmosis filter system under the sink. We had this product installed a couple of days ago, and we’ve already started noticing the difference in our skin. We wash dishes a lot since we mostly cook at home, so our hands were very dry with many cuts, likely from the chlorine and hard water. Since installing this system, our hands’ skin is getting much better, and we really feel good about this product. The water feels much lighter now and tastes great. We chose this company because they provide a pressure measuring unit on top of the filtration system, use stainless steel material, offer a reverse osmosis system, and gave us the best pricing options compared to other companies. We had a very good experience with their sales consultant, Monte. He is responsible, caring, professional, and has excellent customer service skills. He knows the product and answered all our queries and concerns very well, even after the installation. He looks after his customers well, even after hours and on weekends.

The water tastes so much better that even my dog won’t drink from anywhere else. There’s no more buildup on the shower glass either—it stays crystal clear.

I absolutely love my PureFlow water system—it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made for my home. I started researching water purifiers after hearing about the water contamination in Melbourne, and after speaking with Monte and then Sam, who was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, I knew I didn’t need to look any further. The water tastes amazing—it’s light, smooth, and silky, and the whole family loves it. It genuinely brings me joy knowing my family is drinking the cleanest, healthiest water possible. My daughter suffers from eczema, and since installing PureFlow, we’ve already seen improvements. This is a one-off expense for something that’s built to last.

Prefer to talk it through? Call us or use the form.
We’re hands-on with everything we do. We only use filters we’ve tested ourselves, and we’re picky - if it’s not good enough for our own homes, we won’t offer it to you. Our systems are built for tough Aussie conditions, and every filter is checked and certified before it leaves our hands. We’re always looking for ways to improve, whether that’s smarter designs, better materials, or new ways to make things easier for busy families.
Aintree’s water is genuinely soft. Greater Western Water supplies the Melton corridor through the Merrimu system, drawing from protected mountain catchments where the water picks up very few dissolved minerals. Hardness levels across the GWW western zone typically sit around 20-40 mg/L, well below the 200 mg/L level at which scale becomes noticeable. You won’t need a water softener. What you’re more likely to notice is the chlorine taste and smell, which is a disinfection issue rather than a hardness one.
This is very common in Woodlea and the newer Aintree estates, and it’s not a fault with your home. As new mains are connected to the live network during each construction stage, small amounts of sediment, metal particles, and construction debris enter the local pipes. The first few months after your move-in are typically the worst. Over time it settles, but in the meantime it passes through every tap and appliance unfiltered. A whole-house filter at the point of entry catches all of this before it reaches your fixtures.
GWW has been testing all its reservoirs for PFAS chemicals monthly since 2023, and all results have come in below the limits set by Australia’s current drinking water guidelines. The Silvan and Greenvale reservoirs that supply the Melton corridor are protected catchments with restricted access, which significantly reduces PFAS risk at the source. Melbourne Water also conducts its own independent PFAS monitoring. If PFAS reduction is still a priority for your household, particularly for drinking and cooking water, a reverse osmosis system under the sink is the most effective solution available.
There can be a small change, but when the system is sized correctly the difference is usually negligible. We match housings and media to your household flow so showers still feel normal.
Most installs are completed in a few hours. Once we’ve done the on-site check, we’ll line up the earliest available date and keep you updated until the day of install.
Pricing depends on your home and goals, water pressure, scope (whole-home filter, Reverse Osmosis filter, or both), household size, site access, and any extras like rainwater or PFAS reduction. To make it simple, we offer a free in-home water test. We’ll identify any issues, discuss what matters to you, and provide a clear recommendation and quote that fits your preferences.
