Building a new home is one of the few chances you'll ever get to do things properly from the start. The walls are open, the plumber's already on site, and adding a whole-home water filter is far simpler now than it ever will be once you've moved in and the driveway's poured.

Why it's easier to do this during the build

Once you're living in the home, retrofitting a filter means working around a finished house: an established garden, a paved side path, sometimes cutting back into completed plumbing. It's all doable, and we do it every week. But during the build, your home is already set up for trades to be on site, and getting the filter sorted at the right stage is cleaner, neater and usually cheaper.

Doing it now also means you get filtered water from the very first glass you pour in your new home, rather than living on unfiltered water for months while you get around to it.

New estates & sediment: worth knowing

A lot of Metricon homes go up in Melbourne's newer growth estates, the kind of areas where civil works, new mains and ongoing construction are still happening all around you. It's common for water in a freshly developed estate to carry more sediment than you'd see in an established suburb, simply because new pipework is being laid and connected nearby. Brand-new internal plumbing can also shed a little material when it's first used.

None of this means the water is unsafe. Melbourne has some of the best treated water in the world. But if you're already building and the choice is there, filtering it from the point it enters your home is a sensible bit of future-proofing, especially in an active building area.

We know the specs, and we'll talk to your builder

This is the part that matters: a good builder won't let just anything onto their site, and nor should they. Our whole-home system is built to be installed cleanly into a new build by a licensed plumber, and we have the paperwork to back it up.
